Ron Slade, husband to Pam and father of Robert and Darrell passed away suddenly on 23rd October 2014.
Ron and Pam were known in the eventing world as the supportive parents of their son, Robert, who was long listed for the Sydney Olympics riding Beauford Miss Dior. Sadly Robert was tragically killed in an eventing accident in 1999 when he was based in UK.
Following Robert’s death Ron and Pam supported Shane Rose as he rode Robert’s Miss Dior to victory at the Adelaide CCI4* in 2004. The couple also donated the Robert Slade Memorial Trophy, which is presented at Sydney three day event each year to the winner of the CCI3*.
Ron always struck me as a good down to earth type of man. A good father who supported his son throughout his career, even if that meant being on the other side of the world from him. His smile was genuine, his handshake was good and strong although the sadness of loosing his son could be seen in his eyes.
Our deepest sympathies go to Pam, her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on 1st November 2014 at the All Saints Anglican Church, Nundle.
